product description
A cutter suction dredger's (CSD) suction tube has a cutting mechanism at the suction inlet. The cutting mechanism
loosens the bed material and transports it to the suction mouth. The dredged material is usually sucked up by a
wear-resistant centrifugal pump and discharged either through a pipe line or to a barge. Cutter suction dredgers
are most often used in geological areas consisting of hard surface materials (for example gravel deposits or surface
bedrock) where a standard suction dredger would be ineffective. They can, if sufficiently powerful, be used instead
of underwater blasting.

Core components
Cutter Head: Alloy cutters are installed at the front end to break the hard soil layer.
Suction Pipe: Connects the reamer and the mud pump to form a negative pressure to suck the mud-water mixture.
Dredge Pump: Provides power to transport mud to the mud discharge pipe.
Positioning System: Spuds or DP dynamic positioning to achieve precise movement.
Ladder: A liftable structure that supports the reamer and suction pipe.
Main workflow:
Excavation: A powerful auger head is mounted on the front or side of the hull. This huge rotating cutter head (usually
with cutting teeth) is lowered to the bottom of the water and rotates at high speed to cut, stir and crush the bottom
materials such as mud, clay and even soft rock.
Suction: The auger head is usually supported by a auger bridge, and a mud suction pipe is installed inside the bridge.
The suction port of the mud suction pipe is located just behind the auger head. When the auger head loosens the
bottom material,the powerful mud pump (centrifugal pump) on the ship starts to work, generating a strong vacuum
suction, sucking the mixture of water and loosened mud (called "mud") through the mud suction pipe.
Transport: The sucked mud is pressurized and transported through the mud pipe system inside the hull.
Discharge: The mud is finally transported to the designated location through the mud discharge pipe. There are
two main discharge methods:
Direct shore discharge/blowing and filling: The mud is directly transported to the land or shoal area to be filled
through a long mud discharge pipeline (floating pipe + shore pipe) connected to the stern of the ship.
Loading: The mud is discharged into the mud barge (mud transporter) docked next to the dredger, and transported
to the dumping area or filling area by the mud barge.

Continuous operation: Excavation, suction, transportation and discharge are carried out continuously with very high
efficiency.
Wide application range: By changing the type of auger head, silt, sand, clay, gravel and even medium-hard weathered
rock can be excavated.
Long transportation distance: The powerful mud pump system can transport mud to several kilometers or even more
than ten kilometers away (even farther through relay pumping stations).
Relatively high excavation accuracy: The excavation depth and flatness can be controlled by adjusting the depth of
the auger bridge and the precise positioning system.
Controllable impact on the environment: Compared with some trailing suction dredgers (which need to open the
bottom to throw mud), the dredger can transport mud and sand to designated locations (such as filling areas)
more accurately through pipelines, reducing the impact on the ecology of the dumping area. Environmentally friendly
auger heads (such as basket auger) can also significantly reduce the spread of suspended matter.
